power supply

A typical wind measurement site is far away from any grid connection and infrastructure. That’s why the measurement system needs an independent autonomous power supply. In most cases a small PV-power system consisting of a PV panel, a battery and a charge regulator is more than sufficient to provide enough power through the whole period of operation. Only in higher latitudes close to the polar circle or under strong icing conditions additional power might be needed. This can be provided by a small wind turbine installed on the met mast or by fuel cells or a diesel generator.

If the measuring system is installed in an existing wind farm a grid connection kit is available. In this case a PV power system can provide back-up energy in case of a black out in the grid.

Design

Autonomous power supply is designed and manufactured by windhunter to be easily delivered to inaccessible areas to supply masts or remote sensing devices. The standard one axe trailer with build in box can be towed by car or transported by helicopter.

Connection

The connection with the system is possible via GSM network. All parameters, alarms or deviations are monitored by the operator straight from the office.

Power

The system consists of methanol fuel cells as well as the PV panels. It is prepared to be upgraded to the version equipped with the small wind breeze.
